Sockets not working, breaker not tripped

Hi, anyone answer this problem. The lights in my kitchen are working but none of my sockets are. The circuit breaker has not tripped and I have reset it a number of times. Any ideas what is wrong? The consumer unit is very new fitted a few weeks ago.

    check the rcd not mcb
may find an appliance is faulty causing the trip
  • What's the RCD, everything on the consumer unit is fine?
  • Tested it thanks, no change.

The lights are on a separate circuit, so it sounds like there is a fault in the supply to the ring main for the sockets. If it's nothing obvious like a breaker tripped, then you probably need an electrician to look at it - the one that installed the new consumer unit, and at no charge??

Have you been banging any screws or nails into any walls or floors recently?
  • Nope, never touched anything

Are you sure you've reset the MCB/RCD for the kitchen ring main-it should probably have it's own labelled circuit? Look at the CU, it should al be clearly labelled up. If not it'll be on the same circuit as the other downstairs sockets. How many ring mains are there?
As above, the lighting circuit is entirely separate.
The MCB will trip if there's a short. If there is simply a loose wire breaking the circuit, (maybe at a socket) it won't. Possibly the MCB itself is faulty.
