Cost of mobility car?

Hello
I'm in reciept of £80 per week dla.
My partner has asked me to enquire about getting a mobility car, I have some questions to ask and was wondering if someone could help?
Would I have to use the whole amount of dla to get a car?
If not how much would I need to use to get an Astra size car?
Thanks

It depends on the model and make of the car, also be prepared to pay an advanced payment. Some astras (taking astra as an example) require no advance paymnet to £2300 advance payment. They would take all of the motability.

Hi,
Someone beat me to it. Go to the motability website. On the left of the home page is a menu. Click on How the scheme works and that explains how much it all costs. The main thing I believe you need though is the higher rate mobility component of the DLA.Check it out anyway the website is easy peasy to use.
Good luck

You can only get a mobility car if you are in receipt of High Rate Mobility component of DLA. The whole amount would need to be used though.

I've just checked my letter from DWP and it states that I get higher rate mobility.
Personal care = £43.15
Getting around = £45
So would I need to only "pay" £45 to get a car on mobility?0 -

Yes, you would loose the mobility component. Some cars have a nil deposit but some require a deposit down which you dont get back. Look on their website, they have tons of info on there.

Just remember you are stuck with the vehicle for 3 years, so make sure it is the right one for your needs, especially if your illness/disability could deteriorate. The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 10

Hiya, we've had our mobility car now for about 18 months. We had an astra estate. 1.4 I think we only had to pay £100 deposit for it, but then the whole amount of mobility element is then taken for the car. I think there are some cars where they don't take the whole amount, we just needed a bigger car.
I think normal size astras are usually nil deposit. The mobility website is good and gives you a good idea of what is available. Remember, you will get your car tax paid as well and the insurance will be free too. There is a limit on the amount of mileage you can do too, I think its 12,000 miles per year (hubby knows more about this than I do) which I'm told is quite generous. The tax disc will get sent to you in the post once every twelve months and you can add additional drivers to the insurance policy too for no extra cost. My hubby is the main driver for our daughter but I've got my dad on the policy as well just in case hubby is not here and we need to use the car for hospital appointments etc. The car will also come with full road side assistance too (AA or RAC) can't remember which one. I must say we'd be lost without our car as our daughter needs transport everywhere, it's a godsend.
Hope this helps

Hi - We've got a 5 door Focus, and have had it for under a year. It too has been a godsend, we never have to worry about servicing costs. It didn't cost anything up front. It uses very little petrol and has plenty of room, I have a wheelchair & that folds up into the boot. It has air con, cd etc etc. Do have a look there are so many cars you are sure to find one thats right for you.

I think there may well be some Astra-sized cars (in manual version) that do not require you to pay the full amount of your allowance.
I have a Citroen C4 auto and I did not have to pay any intitial payment but do have to pay the full amount of my DLA mobility component.0
