What tool(s) would you use to cut this hedge down to size ?

We want to cut this hedge down to about 4-5 feet high.
I'm all for getting and using an electric chain saw, my Dad thinks he can do it with a hand saw (he's 'old school' when it comes to using power tools)
What do you reckon ?

Hedge trimmer to take off foliage, reciprocating saw for larger branches. It may not releaf next year though.0
