Overhanging Trees

Options
We have several overhanging trees over our back garden, which as I understand it are on local council owned land. Over the last few months these have become a bit more of a problem, they are now at a height which we cant reach to cut them back, also now blocking any sunlight into the back garden, and dropping pollen onto washed clothes and staining them. Whilst i appreciecate nobody has a right to sunlight (befre anyone points that out...) is there anything we can do to get these cut back. I spoke to the council a few months ago and was told unless they were considered as dangerous then they wont do anything, and even then they would take several months to come out and look at them. Personally id be quite happy to employ someone to come out and have them 'disapear' once and for all, but as they arn't on my land.... any sensible advice gratefully received!, thanks

You can cut any branches which cross your property boundary but that is as far as you have a right to do. That might help a little but you can do nothing about the height of the tree outside your property boundary.

The type of tree could prevent even this.

Thanks, I understand I can cut anything that overhangs, but these are now at a height and size where they require more than your average loppers... Seems like I'm left to foot the bill for something that the council should be tending to, or at least the bit that is over my property

Call the council again and speak to a more considerate council employee! I've had a few issues over the years and sometimes, after several calls, I get an empathetic council employee on the other end of the line and things happen.

Phone the council state damage to your property and take it from there.
