Fixed term contract redundancy, back on hourly paid, Tax?

Hello all.

I was made redundant at the end of July after 4 years of fixed term contracts. I received redundancy pay for the 4 years.

I've now been asked to come back to help out for a couple of days next month. Apparently the HR dept has said as it'll have been 4+ weeks since my termination, and I'll be back on a part time hourly paid contract, that there won't be an issue with the tax office (IE, paying tax on the redundancy pay).

However, before I agree to anything I'd like to check that this is true (I don't have much faith in the HR dept) - as the tax I'd have to pay on the redundancy pay is more than 2x what I'd earn for the work they want me to do!

Any incite or clarity is very much appreciated! I'm tempted to side with caution and tell them to shove it for the sake of 2 days pay...
