Please recommend some holiday locations/hotels/apartments etc

We haven't been on holiday for a number of years and want to go on a foreign holiday next year. We're thinking April May sort of time when our LO will be nearly 1 1/2 as temperatures on the continent seem to usually be between 19-23oC which seems ideal with the little one.

So there will be the infant + 2 adults on a shoestring budget. We was originally we was looking at package holidays (flights, hotel and transfers) but started thinking maybe renting a holiday home/apartment would be better to make it more of a home from home, since with LO we would probably spend more time there than had it just been to two of us so would be more comfortable.

We're thinking maybe Palma Nova or Albuferia, Mallorca. Or San Antonio Bay, Ibiza. Or possibly Paphos, Cyprus (although we went there on our last holiday 5 years ago so maybe as a last resort).

Only problem is its hard to get an idea of location, whatfacilities are actually like (review websites can be very mixed) etc. ideally we went close to beach and amnesties such as supermarket etc. Short walk from restaurants and town.

So the point of this thread.... I'm hoping you good people can recommend places to go, hotels you've been to and any other recommendations/thoughts we've maybe not thought off.

  • Try govillasandcottages.co.uk

Useful website and allows you to contact owners direct uk holiday cottage or villa rental abroad. With no booking fee.

You are the second person I have directed there today alone, and no, I don't work for them ;)

What kind of thing are you looking for? Sun and fun or 'staycation' (and fun)?

We have just returned from a lovely week on the Isle of Wight instead of abroad this year. Every bit as good.

Is what I meant to put. Have a look at their online magazine too....may give you some inspiration other than what you have in mind
  • Look at https://www.skysanner.net for flights and https://www.ownersdirect.com for properties.

Have you considered Tenerife or Lanzarote?

Plenty of cheap properties and flights and fairly consistant temperatures all year round.

Personally I would prioritise shortish flight and short tranfer time. We are big fans of Cambrils, just south of salou as the beach is fantastic and it still feels like Spain.

Use skyscanner.net to see if you can fly to reus as around £20 in a taxi. Would wait til mid may for weather though

    I've got two suggestions:
    • a lovely little resort on Majorca called Porto Colom. I stayed there 5 years ago in the JS El Corto apartments/aparthotel. At the time I got a late deal so I can't find a tour operator at the moment. Perfect little apartment but also half board. That would be great if you wanted a hot sun, sand and sea holiday.
    • a bit more of an 'Isle of Wight/Cornwall' type family holiday but abroad would be Brittany. I had a week in a lovely cottage last year with Brittany Ferry Holidays. Very reasonable as the ferry fare is included in the price and they often do reductions early in the year.

  • If you are looking at the end of April / early May you will need to consider the Easter Holidays and May bank holidays which will push prices up.
Also it's rather early in the season for Ibiza which doesn't normally open up as such until 1st May, although with the Easter holidays being later next year it's likely it will open earlier so may not be too bad.
Majorca's main season is may-oct too but Palma Nova does stay open all year round so should be ok.

Personally I would suggest southern spain or the algarve instead as it should be slightly busier and also warmer with less chance of rain!

    Spam....................
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.
  • not spam. I scooped the info off a blog that I follow. I did post it a couple of times on a few threads, due to the free book available.

No harm & no foul intended. Sorry.
