Is A Conservatory Suitable for a Bungalow North Facing Garden?

Yes there is, planning permission is not required for a conservatory subject to certain conditions.

Nor is it for extensions subject to certain conditions.0 -

We have a north facing conservatory and it is lovely and bright. It is cold in winter, but not too hot in summer and as it gets very little direct sunlight it doesn't need blinds (it had them when we moved in, but that made it look darker) and it doesn't get too hot. We use it a lot from March-November.0

Have you added heating to keep it warm in winter? I have heard that certain roof finishes can help to keep the heat in, have you got those or do you just not use the conservatory in the winter ?0 -
There has never been any difference in planning terms between conservatories and extensions.

We do have a small radiator, but it's not adequate tbh (conservatory was added by a previous owner so not what we'd have chosen). We just don't use it in winter, but we're quite lucky space-wise as there's only 2 of us in the house.0 -
Has anyone actually put a conservatory on a north facing garden attached to a bungalow ?
My husband said that the low roof of the bungalow should allow the conservatory to get light for much of the day (obviously more during the summer). Would this only be the case though the further out we extended the conservatory as 3mtrs seems to be the size you can have without planning permission ?
I don't want to go to the expense of putting on a conservatory for it to be freezing cold and in the dark for much of the year as the expense would be pointless. I don't mind heating it but I love the sunshine you get in a conservatory and this would be my main reason for having one.0 -

You can go to 4m if your detachedNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0 -

Do conservatories need building regs approvals?"We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0
