I'm trying to upload pictures from my SD card to my laptop but it keeps saying there was an error because my file name is too long. It only gives me options to either retry or to cancel. I have pressed retry many times but it still doesn't work.

You would have to reduce the name of the file on the CD card - I'm not sure if you can do this with Windows Explorer (or similar).0

How are you trying to do this? Can you insert your SD card into your laptop? then view contents through windows explorer and change name there, is my initial suggestionFriendly greeting!0

is that an SD card from your camera? if so, put your SD card back to your camera and connect the camera to your laptop. if you have installed your camera tool/software to your laptop, it'll open then try renaming it there.0

Are you using the SD card in a card reader, or is it still in the camera?
How did the pictures get onto the card in the first place? With the camera? If so, what make and model?0 -
Can you give us an example of a filename? I'm a bit surprised to hear this, we're not in the DOS 8 character filename days any more (well, not unless you are using a really old computer).0

It's probably corrupt and has characters in the name, which windows cannot work with.
As above, post the file name

Could be that the name of the folder you want to copy the file into is very long, and combined with the filename itself pushes the total over the maximum length allowed.0

I'm guessing that the destination folder is the problem. Try copying the files to a folder that is in a simpler location. The "file name too long" issue is often caused by the whole file name - including the folder path. The whole name (including folder names) is limited to 255 characters. If you are putting your files into a folder inside a folder inside a folder (etc) then all the names add up Or you can try this software http://longpathtool.com/0
