Citroen C1

Hi there,

Does anyone know how well Citroen C1 runs on the motorway, please? Insurance wise i'd be much better off getting a 1 litre C1 rather than the 1.4 litre C3, but i'm concerned about doing longer journeys in the C1.

It would generally just be used for short local driving. Only occasionally would i do more than an hour's drive in one sitting.

Thanks for any advice.

Have you got quotes on the C3? My partner has one, is a new driver and pays only £450 a year.

Probably would feel very underpowered on the motorway. There's a new Fiesta with a 1.0 Eco boost engine that I believe has more power than the old 1.25 so that should feel fine on the motorway but still have a small engine.

Get some quotes on different cars, you might be surprised that a car with a bigger engine might not cost as much to insure.

Thanks, my quotes for a C3 were coming out at between £600-800! Only tried 3 companies so far, but i obviously need to shop around more. I passed my test years ago, but have not owned a car for over 10 years so do not have any no claims bonus.

Thanks, guess i need to shop around more. The C3 is known to be a good value car, insurance wise, so i probably just need to find a decent quote.

Im on my second C1 and have no problem doing a 250 mile journey back home to Wales. Last time I averaged 76mpg, I'm 6 foot and 21 stone and feel very comfortable driving a small cars over long distances.

Have a look at C1oc for more info.

My car is devaluing at around £8/week, I can live with that!

I've driven a Westfield 3 hours down the motorway and back, roof down, noisy as hell, wind buffeting all the way, elbow protruding from the side of the car, transmission tunnel hot from the heat of the engine and head height is below the level of the tyres on a lorry.
    Tiring but never boring......

Anything can drive on the motorway, it all depends on whether you prefer a drivers car or a living room on wheels.

We hired an Aygo (same car as C1/107) in Sweden a few years back, and did some reasonably long motorway runs with three adults up. I was very pleasantly surprised.

TBH, I loved it. If I were looking at C1 or C3, it'd be a no-brainer for me. The C1/107/Aygo is a little corker of a thing. What it doesn't have is any boot space worth speaking of.

But, hey, you'll test-drive both on a variety of roads before you decide, won't you?

I see the C1 is now available for £49-99/month on a lease?

    Cheap as chippies.

With all the usual deposit, balloon, mileage etc caveats.
