a question about Nectar Cards

I was topping up nectar points without knowing it every time I made an online payment to British Gas on a card I'd registered and couldn't be bothered to use about 2 years ago
Out of curiosity I looked on the website and there's 6,500 points on there
how much is that worth? Can I walk into Sainsbury's just with Nectar points and buy 20 fags without paying any actual cash or do purchases have to always be a combination of real money and points?
I'm asking here so I don't look like a plonker in the supermarket!
thanks

Take a look at this page and hover over the sainsburys logo for more info.

I'm sort of half sure someone once told me you can't spend points in a sainsburys unless you have registered your card at that particular store. But I may be wrong.0 -
I've spent Nectar points in Sainsburys and I don't think we have ever registered in all the Sainsburys stores we've used.
You can only redeem points in blocks of £2.50, so unless the item you are buying is in the same multiples it might be difficult to buy entirely with points.====0 -
I'm pretty sure you can spend them in any Sainsbury's just like you can collect them anywhere.
I'm not sure if you can use them to buy fags though. I can't see anything about it on the site but I know they don't give them for buying fags so maybe the reverse is true.
You could always buy groceries and use the money saved to buy fags. Not that I'm advocating smoking before anyone has a go!;)0 -
I just got some food in sainsbury's for first time in ages but my nectar points havent come off my bill, only a fivers worth so would be too embarrassed to ask why. Any idea?0

You can only redeem in £2.50 (500 pts) multiples, how much was the shopping and how many points did you have ?0

Just over a fivers worth of points,my shopping was about £8. Maybe it was because it wasn't my local store?0
