Help with finding tarrif to compare

Options
Hi, I am trying to help my elderly Aunt to check she is on the best electricity deal. I have a copy of her bill but don't know if she is on the Economy 7 or super saver or whatever it was that came up as a drop down option. She does have storage heaters and is on electricity only. her bill says that she is on Fresh Start plan but this doesn't come up as an option so I am unable to get a comparison on this site. I do know her annual usage. Can anyone help?

Fresh Start is Scottish Power's social tariff and could be difficult to beat. I assume you can figure out what her energy has cost for the year so you will have to do some calculating yourself. Put the standard tariff in the comparison site and compare how the annual figures are against her current actual costs. As far as E7 is concerned the bill should show a high and low rate, could be described as high / low, peak / off peak or day / night.

If she has storage heaters and is NOT on E7 then you need to get her switched! It should clearly show on the bill as above.
It doesn't really matter what you enter as the current tariff, since you already know her annual spend from her billing. So use anything. The point is to get the comparative data.
Social tariffs don't come up on comp sites, as they are not universally available.

  • which ever tarriff you choose you can guarantee it will be higher than your previous tariff,
it makes you laugh when these companys flood the market with (so called new Tarriffs) as all it is, is a new PRICE hike hidden under the disguise of a (new tariff)
  • You would be a fool to change her tariff.

I am on Eon's equivalent tariff and it also doesn't show on comparison sites but putting in my usage gives me M&S as the cheapest but it is over £200 a year more than what I am paying.
Getting forgetful, if you think I've asked this before I probably have. :rotfl:
  • Many thanks for your responses. I do have day and night rates for her so that means she is on Economy 7.
£70 per month. Scottish Power have just put her payments up to £87 per month which would total £1044.
That would seem to me to be worth switching?

The fact her instalment has gone up has absolutely no bearing whatsoever on whether or not she should switch.

Re-read post 2. Get her annual kWh usage on each register and put the figures through a comp site with the relevant percentage split.
As above-what matters is the annual spend, not what the DD is initially set at
If the DD has gone up due to arrears (due to higher usage or regular readings not submitted), then it will drop back once they are cleared-so the annual spend is not £1,044.
