Student to Graduate Car Insurance

Hi there
I was just looking to see if someone could give me some advice. Back in May I signed up through Endsleigh for car insurance with all the bells and whistles they offer. I was given at this point student car insurance. I have since spoke to confirm that I have graduated and was informed that my premium would increase by 40%!!
At the time of processing the insurance I notified them that I would be graduating in this year which meant that the insurance was going to cover me for a period that i was longer than a student. I was informed that this was down to the job that I was doing, although this is the same job that I was doing at the time.
As I notified them at point of sale do I have a leg to stand on?
Thanks

To be honest id shop around ive just done a quote with endsleigh for my daughter who is a student and has been driving 18 months and they have quoted almost 1000 more than her own policy she has now.0

Might be worth running a dummy quote to check they aren't taking unfair advantage of your captive punter status, i.e. see what they would charge a new graduate.
Did anything else change when you graduated like address, job, commuting cover etc etc?0
