Stream films (wirelessly) to iPad?

My wife has banned me from watching anything remotely gory on our TV preferring to giggle over rom-coms and chick flicks :(

One possibility is for me to stream the films (on my NAS) to my iPad. Is this feasible?

I suspect if I were to use iTunes to do so, I would need my PC on (prefer to avoid this).

The films are not particularly big (700Mb up to 1.4Gb) so I'm hoping wireless will be sufficient. I have an iPad3.

Thanks for all replies.

I use 8player to stream the twonky streams from my Humax foxsat , and sadly I cannot get at my iPad to verify if it works from my Nas too (wife has the iPad and I am listening to the footie) but 8player seems to work with many DLNA devices (there is a free version to try first) I paid for it having tested it for the Humax

Could go out, buy a nice 50" LED tv and let you wife have that Tv and you use the nice new shiny Tv. Sounds fair
Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j

She is a good cook though, and if I grew a pair that would simply restore a target for her to cut off (again)

Thanks guys - will give free version a whizz

8player works perfectly - many thanks for the suggestion. I will evaluate the free version and decide whether or not I need the paid for app.
