strange as mine is exactly the opposite.
i was told to remove ALL software/drivers, reboot & re-install from printer provider's website?
hope this works, please let me know as havent got round to it yet.
p.s. why would u wish to print from cable if u can print via network?

Easiest way to find out if its a problem with the USB/Printer or your computer is to try and use the printer VIA USB on another computer, if this works then you know the printer/usb is working fine and its something to do with your computer specifically.
Above doesnt work then it will be something to do with the USB/Printer, in this case you can try another usb cable and if that does not work either its going to be the usb port on the printer.0 -

For a network connection that is not working there is a few things you can try(sorry if you have tried thisnalready).
I am unsure what printer you use but the first thing to do is reset the network card inside the printer, the instructions should be in the user guide you have or a network connection user guide, once this is done restart the router by taking the power supply out for 15 seconds and then plug back in.
Once both are restarted and connected see if the printer is on the network. If you still cannot see the printer thrn try a different port on the router and then if this still does not work a different network cable, as above if u do not get a connection after doing this then the network card may have developed a fault.0
