Late payment on credit file

I have a late payment showing on my credit report with my mortgage lender (dated July 13).
The problem I have is that I want to apply for the mortgage in my sole name (recently divorced). The late payment occurred when I changed my married name back to my maiden name on my bank account (mortgage payment was already coming out of my sole account, so the bank details hadn't changed, only the account name).
My bank tried to send the payment via direct debit but the mortgage company wouldn't accept it as it was coming from a "third party account". I didn't find out about any of this until I received a letter a week later (I hadn't checked my bank account). As soon as I received the letter, I rang and made the payment over the phone and was told that it wouldn't effect my credit rating... Of course, now it's showing up as late!
Is there anything I can do?

Send them a complaint, in writing, detailing the above and ask them to correct your credit file as you were told it would not affect you.
Easier than getting the run around on the phone, as no joy you can refer to the FOS after 8 weeks.:beer:0
