Does anyone know whether the machine featured in next weeks special buys is worth the money??
Nice to save.

It's OK, but not a brilliant specification - the problem is that it records +R to play back on a standard DVD player or playstation I've been told that ytou need -R - a bit like Betamax and VHS . If you don't want to play back on other machines, then it's quite good!0

OK, thanks for that, I'll give it a miss and try and afford something a bit more future proof.Nice to save.0

DVD +R's work virtually everywhere I tested them apart from my PS2 (who uses this for dvd's anyway???) and my PC at work which is about 7 years old. Wouldn't think I worked for a PC firm!
Virtually all cheap DVD players and most reasonably priced ones will play both +/- nowadays - nothing like how the beta max story turned out.
For the price, it looks like very good value to me.
I have the Tevion surround system which has more features than my expensive Sony one. Pretty good as well.
BTW, anyone no where to get a replacement 5.1 cable for it?
It is a G9 (mini din) to 6 phono (RCA) or 3 3.5mm headphone sockets would do. Can't find it anywhere on the web except as a freebie with 5.1 headphones or PC soundcardMy Heart is in the Highlands......0 -

Price isnt determined by features though, is it? Surely the sony one is better quality (build and sound) if they are of similar ages.0 -

True, the sony does have better sound quality and overall look, but is lacking in the menu structure, useability of the remote, etc
I was just impressed with the Tevion which was a quarter of the price (really about a sixth if I paid full price for the sony). I paid 300 for the Sony which had come down sharpley from over 500. T cost 70.
Pity about the dodgy cable and lack of any i/p's, but not bad for the money. There just isn't that much difference between electronic goods anymore unless you go right to the top price band - and I am a label snob.My Heart is in the Highlands......0 -
Oh yeah, I used to work selling in the 'top price band' (surround amps starting at £400 and rising to £5000, ok so this is 'middle band' really) I'm not a label snob, but I am a quality perfectionist.0

This will tell you that price isn't everything, if you pay more, you don't always get better quality, just what the company can get away with charging. Also, +R discs WILL play in the majority of machines, that isn't a "so I've been told", it's fact.
Think how much you payed for your last decent video recorder, then decide if 100 quid is too much for a better machine0 -
try this one - multi format, from John Lewis with a 2 year guarantee.

Lets sort this out
The Tevion 1000 DVD Recorder from ALDI only records on DVD +R or +RW which is fine if using the same player to play back on.
But will it play in most other DVD players??
When you go say blockbusters and Rent a Film.. guess those are not in either "+" or "-" formats? am i right?
Do majority of dvd players play either format? Some one help us sort this feud out!0 -
I got a lite-on DVW-5006 which burns to everything. Cost me £145 but probably cheaper now. Its an excellent recorderWycombe Till I Die0
