Buying a car with a higher seating position

Title really explains what I'm after!

I hired a new Qashqai a few months ago and liked the way it drove and the seating position. I've also heard good things about the Skoda Yeti, and believe there's a new model out next year? Has anyone got other recommendations? I'm looking at spending no more than £20k

Thanks.

Are you buying new? What mileage do you do (if its mainly town driving and lower mileage then a petrol will be better than a diesel - but if its more motorway commutes a diesel will be better in the long run).

I'm not a massive Qashqai fan, but that said I think I'm in the minority as it's one of the best selling cars in the UK - a new one is on its way in 2014. The Yeti however I do like, I sat in one not long ago and it felt really nice - very practical and spacious also, I would have a look at that.

If you like the Qashqai and the Yeti go down to your dealer and have a look and try them out. I dont know if you have a car supermarket near you but these are good because they have loads of different models in one place for you try out all at the same time, instead of going from Nissan showroom, to Skoda showroom etc - not saying buy it there, but I think you know what I mean.

Also, the old-style (well, it was replaced this year) Mercedes A-class is a decent little car, I should know as my mum owns one. It has been trouble free and is low to tax and run, it also has a higher seating position and is more roomy inside than you'd think. You wouldn't be able to get one new though as they stopped making them like that last year. Lots of choices, let me know if you have any questions.

Oh and just to add - if you are thinking of the A-class, get one with the manual gearbox like me mam has as the CVT is known for faults and problems and they are expensive to replace.

The new model B classes a now coming in at below your budget.
  • I was in the same position a few months back, I bought a Qashqai 360 dci £22k list paid £16 plus trade an 08 plate Vectra. The 360 is one down from the top spec Tekna so not poverty spec.
I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world
