My oven wont heat to temperature and cook a pizza in 20 minutes.
    I wish!
I like the idea of the dry fry pan method for the base.
I shall try this finishing the topping under the grill.
Will report back if it is suitably delicious.

    i think area of two 8" is 50.24 x 2 = 100.48
    area of 12" is 113.04

Have never thought of Maritn's simpler comparison which works to 128:144 !

Ive never heard of cooking the base in a dry pan. I like the idea though. Can you enlighten me as to how its done?

    Hi Judy,
Lost my way a bit on this one  but followed the link 'making pizzas' in Martin's tips on comparing pizzas - then in post 19 of that thread there was a link to another thread from Nov 2005 about fast cook pizzas and the first post there has a link to a BBC page with the recipe with the dry fry pan.:j

The 20 minutes bit in my post comes from a costing on homemade pizza - 15" pizza = £5.20 including 20 minutes 'leccy' this thread by churchmouse.

Thought I was posting in a thread including both :D - too many tabs open at once!!!:rotfl:

Make em yourself. There isn't many things that you can perfect within a few goes in the kitchen but pizza is one. Oven as hot as it will go. Cook down a tin of chopped tomatos with a touch of garlic and extra virgin olive oil until all the liquid is gone. That's your sauce. A few slices of (real) buffala mozarella on the top. Cook for around 10 mins. Take out. Sprinkle with basil. No more, no less.

As i said, after a couple of times you'll be able to make a pizza the likes of which you never thought you'd be able to find outside Italy. You won't even consider ordering one again.
  • i don't buy anything from domino's, as i understand they have a habit of donating money to pro-life organisations in the US.

i prefer to support smaller, local businesses. i want to save money, but small differences in pizza costs aren't as important to me as a thriving local community
Boyfriend & I have saved £12K in two years, thanks to careful budgeting and keeping a record of what we spend. I've never paid myself this amount of money before - it feels great!
