Credit card pin number problems.

Options
I entered my pin no which came back as incorrect, thought I'd got it wrong. Tried again just to find the same, so I sent for a copy of my pin, I had it right it just doesn't work.
Am I supposed to contact the company again when I received it or something, I have not had this problem before?

call the CC company and ask them for a definitive answer.

You're not using it on the wrong CC are you?
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.
  • Thanks redpete I only have one CC so I know that is right, I have tried phoning only to sit on the end of a long queue.
I will phone again just wondered if anyone had come accross this.
  • Are you sure the PIN has not locked?
  • Yes the pin was locked has never happened to me before, thought it only happened when you put the wrong pin in.
Sent for my pin I had it right, I needed to put card in one of their own machine & unlock it.
    Thanks all.

Did they not tell you why it was blocked?

If it can't be unlocked in a ATM.
Then you need to get a new card & PIN issued.

Seems to be a lot of cards are getting the chips scrambled. The only way to get round it is a new card and PIN.
As simply replacing the card leaves the chip in the same state as the one on the card.

Indeed a family member had a similar issue, they never did resolve it but it isn't much trouble as in-stores it will just say "Incorrect PIN" and then "VERIFY BY SIGNATURE" and at automated machines (Like a train station) it will just say "INCORRECT PIN", "APPROVED". So not only did they mess up the PIN they obviously have the card verification method messed up as well.

The problem is it's not known what causes the issue.
Theories run from issues when a card is entered/removed from devices to bad batches of chips.

Can be if the retailer will not run the risk of bypassing PIN verification.
Also some card providers will not allow this now, with certain types of retailers.

Is this when it is just a case of picking up prepaid tickets, or actually paying.
If paying then points to the transaction not being authorised and the retailer taking a massive risk.

No its completely automatic, nothing on the retailers side. I did check this but if the chip is the one that decides the CVM then the retailer is not liable anyway.

No at automatic machines at trains (Where you buy) it will just say approved but this often common practice when a signature or PIN can't be checked, I have a US corporate chip and signature card and it will usually do the same thing at automated machines in the UK (Or ask for a PIN and any number will work).
