Fishy? I doubt it. More and more people are avoiding going out in the sunlight or aren't able to, so their diets could become deficient.
I'd stop worrying about what other people might be doing and get out for a walk while it isn't raining.0

I saw my GP the other day and we were talking about the weather (surprised?) when he mentioned that he was glad the sun was out because he had been dealing with more patients suffering from Vitamin D deficiency than ever before?"The best things in life are free"

Nothing fishy regarding Vit D. it prevents rickets in children amongst toher things, it is known as the sunshine pill, if you don't get at least 20 minutes of sunshine a day, you are deficient in Vit D. Your body cannot store this.
it helps alleviate depression and SADD..I have been taking one a day since arriving in the country, the dose I take is D3 2000iu x 1 tablet daily. in the States they add Vit D to the milk, so the kids get a daily supplement.
it also helps you to sleep better.

My daughter does research into the effects of Vitamin D supplimentation or not in children.
An interesting thing she told me after attending a multidisciplinary conference is that dogs can only create vitamin d through their nose and the pads of their feet, as not many dogs spend time with the bottoms of the feet to the sun it is necessary to suppliment their diets.
Another useless fact I have stored!0

Maybe that explains why they like to do this so much: 0 0

I was given to understand that the absorption of vitamin D naturally in the body was dependant upon the ingestion of fat - which was why butter was a good natural method of getting vitamin D, and why margerine had to have vitamin D added.
Maybe, with the fact that people spend less time in the sunshine (which although we've had quite a lot this summer hasn't been seen much here in the UK in the last few years) coupled with a low-fat diet has contributed to the need for vitamin d supplement!0

Actually I think it can Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin. It's the water-soluble ones that the body can't store, like the B-Group.
