HSBC PPI help needed from those in the know!!!

Options
I received the letter from HSBC saying I might be able to claim PPI back. Its been more than 2 and a half months and after a written letter 3 phone calls 2 messages though my internet banking I'm still waiting for a reply. Now the information I need is for someone to clarify if HSBC LIFE UK LTD is the same as PPI?? I was paying £30 a month for that on top of my loan repayments but I didn't ask for it I was told I had to have it. The issue here is that I was paying £8.50 a month to an independent company to cover me for the exact same thing i.e. if I got a terminal illness, lost a limb, lost my job or died! Any advice or info on if I have a case here would be welcome and if so what do I do to make them pay up? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like life and critical illness cover, which is not PPI.

But if I was paying another company for the same cover did I even need to be paying the extra £30 on top of my loan? Shouldn't I be able to claim that back after it wasn't asked if I wanted it but just told I have to have it with no discussion??

If you already had considerable overlap of cover then you would have to prove that there was no discussion or agreement for there to be any possibility of a refund.

It doesnt quite say that. A CCL says you had PPI on a product in the past and that these may have been mis-sold. If you think you were then you are invited to put a complaint in.

HSBC Life UK Ltd is a life assurance company. Not a general insurance company. HSBC Life issued life assurance, critical illness, PHI and pensions. Not PPI.
I was paying £30 a month for that on top of my loan repayments but I didn't ask for it I was told I had to have it.

Although complaints of that nature normally fail as there is a lack of evidence. HSBC typically sold these types of plans under an advice process (so a factfind, needs analysis and report would have been issued). Most put in place under advice get rejected. That is unless you can show you have no financial need for lfe assurance (or whatever else it covers).

We dont know your financial needs. However, if you did have someone worse off in the event of your death (partner/spouse/children) then increasing your debt would also increase your life assurance requirements. So, in that case, yes, you would have a financial need.
Shouldn't I be able to claim that back after it wasn't asked if I wanted it but just told I have to have it with no discussion??

What evidence do you have to support that?

How would I prove that though? I have proof of the policy but surely it would be the word of the salesman against mine?

The onus is on the person making the allegation. If no evidence exists, the complaint, on that point, fails.

There would have been no one "worse off" none of my needs were discussed

Doesn't seem fair but I guess they will get away with it then. Thanks
