When's the best time to book a flight o/s - four months in advance or a month?

I need to fly to Australia for my sister's wedding in October - leaving on Friday 5th after work and returning three weeks later in time for work on Monday 29th. I've seen some good flights but I am wondering whether I should book now or wait until closer to the date in the hope of getting something a bit cheaper than £842 rtn!
Got £820 back from HSBC! Now entering comps like mad with the hope of winning a nice long holiday....

Was £842 the cheapest or the best suitable deal?
Are Emirates or Gulf Air or China Eastern cheaper?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
It was with Malaysian. I know I could go cheaper with certain airlines but I'd rather stick with a major airline!Got £820 back from HSBC! Now entering comps like mad with the hope of winning a nice long holiday....0

Emirates and Gulf Air are major airlines.
Perhaps check if those flights are cheaper if you add 1 night in a hotel.
Go to https://www.expedia.co.uk click on holidays and then tick I only need a hotel for part of my trip, enter the details and pick a saturday night for the 1 night in a hotel.
Also perhaps call https://www.trailfinders.com and see if they have any good deals.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -

Oh, and I need to stick fairly closely with those dates due to the myriad of hen's nights and other things planned!Got £820 back from HSBC! Now entering comps like mad with the hope of winning a nice long holiday....0 -
Try Singapore Airlines. I've just booked with them and returning home in a fortnight. You also have the option of having a stopover which is a godsend with such a long haul flight. I've never flown with them before so can't recommend them other than the prices.
Don't think it makes any difference if you book now or wait. Better to do it earlier as you can go online and pre-book the seats you want which we did.Enjoy your trip.
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -

They are usually regarded as one of the best airlines, if not the best in the world. As a result, their flights generally come at a premium price, justified by their immaculate service, fine champagne and wide range of dining and entertainment options. And yes, I'm talking about economy. So if you got your ticket with them at a bargain basement price you have really done well!0
