Credit Card Locked

When I tried to use my Barclaycard it said it was locked.
When I rang Barclaycard about it (it had been extremely difficult and embarrassing) I was told that I had entered my card number incorrectly on at least three occasions.
When I said I had no recollection of ever doing so I was told that it could have been on any three occasions in the last five years.
Is this common occurrence ?

    Certainly not.
I think they were talking rubbish.
  • If you enter your PIN (not your card number) incorrectly three times in a particular day, the card will get locked. But the count will have been reset the next day. So you can have another two tries.

The number of wrong entries does not accumulate over the life-time of the card.
  • Thank you for the replies.
So what could have gone wrong and why did they lie to me instead of admitting that it was some sort of mistake on their part ?

The incorrect pin count resets when the pin is entered correctly. Therefore it will count if it was entered incorrectly 5 years ago - but only if you've not used the card by entering the pin correctly in the meantime.

Because they will never admit that they haven't got a clue and are far too lazy/incompetent for finding out the genuine reason.
  • Thank you.
I was beginning to doubt my own sanity.

Yes - it's much easier to accuse someone else of lying....................
