Hi,
What software do people use/recommend. I'd pay if it comes highly recommended, but i'd rather try the free ones first.
Thanks.

MS Money used to be quite good when Microsoft still marketed it. Some people are still swearing by it, and you can still get the CDs on amazon.
There have been plenty of threads on here asking about alternatives to MS Money - might be worth your while working through them.

I find the native Accountunity (which is the engine behind First Direct's, and also Yorkshire Building Society's, service) much more flexible and useful.

I'm just trying to use GnuCash but its pretty confusing.
Is there a good place online which shows how to setup different UK online banking in these apps?0 -
I just use a combination of Barclays online desktop/mobile banking, a bulldog clip (for debit slips and receipts), 8" x 6" diary (to keep track of DDs etc) and a small notebook (to keep running total of ins & outs). Oh, plus most important tools....a biro to both write with and strike through debit slips etc and a pocket calculator. It's just a matter of getting into the habit of keeping up to date on a daily basis, and for joint accounts like ours are both parties must stick to the agreed rules of operation. Biggest annual chore is inputting all the DDs etc into each new diary every October.
I get paid into the bank each Friday which is also when I list all the "outs" due before the next Friday and cross off the relevant reminders in the diary, then move any spare amount into savings accounts after allowing a float for shopping & cash.
So simple....but it works!Never trust a financial institution.
