Problem conecting camera to pc. Can anyone help please?

I have a Samsung ST200F camera and a HP Laptop with windows 8.

Normally when I want to upload my photos I simply connect the cable from camera to laptop and away I go but today nothing is happening.

Usually the camera says 'connecting to computer' which it is doing.
The top of the screen on the pc shows a little box which says 'Tap to choose what happens to this file'. Today that is not happening for some reason.

When first connect the cable the little timer which shows the camera is connecting shows on the laptop but then after about 2 seconds it disappears and nothing else happens.

Ive tried using both the ports - they are both the same.

I know the lead is working because I have something called intelli-studio on the laptop and the pics are uploading onto that but its not what I normally use or want to use.

Normally when the little box appears saying 'Tap to choose' I just tap and the pics load into a file which appear in the library with todays date.

I have never had a problem before and wonder if anyone has any idea what going on.
I loaded some pics on Friday for ebay with no issues and have just come back from a weekend away to find its not working but cant think of anything Ive done different to usual.

Have you tried powering off the camera and powering it on again, with the cable connected throughout?

If that doesn't work/hasn't worked, try powering off and on again the PC.

Failing all this, look on Amazon (other good merchants are available!) for a USB adapter which takes the particular memory card from the camera.

Unfortunately I'm not familiar with Windows 8, but in Windows 7 the device would show up under Start Menu > devices & printers. Do you know how to get to that location in Windows 8? You should check if it shows up there even though the Autoplay box doesn't open.

If it shows up, there's probably nothing wrong with the camera and you may have just changed the Autoplay options. Autoplay options are in Control Panel > Autoplay. Again, not sure if this is different in Win8.

Should be quite similar!

Thank you for the replies. I have tried shutting down and re opening and turning the camera off and on again. I have also checked the printers and devices and the camera is showing there.

Its really strange, it was working fine on Friday. I have tried to connecting to my sons laptop (the same make as mine) and it works perfectly.

I've been on a help site which suggest that me USB port must not be working however that doesn't seem right as the pictures are automatically uploading onto the intelli-studio thing which I don't use. (Cant understand how to use it if I'm honest). I just like the basic uploading onto a file so I can use them for ebay.

Based on xp. Plug camera in and switch on.. Open my computer. Right click removeable disc ( your camera). Left click properties - auto play, select action you want and apply.
