Ally, hugs to you.....it's such a pain job hunting and so frustrating when you actually want to get a job but there is nothing out there (compared to those who sign on as a lifestyle choice )

:staradmin Done my Job-seeking. Rant alert: Not looking forward to tomorrow. Have to see a Careers Advisor at demand of Jobcentre to "help guide me into my chosen career and give me direction". (It was that or I had to go on a four-day course to learn how to complete application forms and learn what to do at interviews.) I hate to sound negative and arrogant but it will be a waste of £3.50 petrol and two hours of my time. I know what career I want, I'm qualified for it, I've years of experience in the industry, I know the local labour market, I'm applying for posts by the gazillion and getting interviews and I was once an Employment Advisor. What can the Careers Service tell me I don't already know? I could be at home doing more applications instead! And then I have to go back to the same room on Wednesday to sign on.
I feel your pain, Ally. I have just started working (:j) after an awful 12 months of being unemployed. The job centre sent me on all kinds of courses that were a total waste of my time (and a 30mile round journey to boot!).0 -
Afternoon Money-savers,
Well, I'm going to type my post before my brain caves in due to a combination of hormones & too much time spent on ebay!
Positive money saving small things today:
*Did laundry overnight on Economy 7, 30 degrees, half powder.
*All line drying in the breezy sunshine.
*Picked another bowl of tomatoes - we now have a glut - made some tomato soup for lunch, will be batch cooking with the rest this week.
*Picked runner beans for dinner, blanched & froze the rest.
*Made bread.
*Listed another 22 items on ebay - that's 50 items in 2 days. My brain cells are now mush.
*Attacked horrible TOTM pain with own label codeine instead of the expensive branded tablets which used to cost me £5-50 a pack. Very effective so far.
*Refilled liquid soap with half a new bottle & diluted it. It seems just as effective as using it full strength & actually, it lathers up better too.
*Found vintage glass decanter I bought ages ago for 50p on a junk stall & filled it with cheap violet-coloured bubble bath. Can't believe how attractive it looks in the bathroom, like something MUCH more expensive!
*mr f finished painting the lobby - looks great - he just used the paint we'd already got in from our last project, so it's cost us nothing but time.
*Almost went to the shop for a BH treat this afternoon, then remembered I'd got home made rhubarb muffins in the freezer, so our NSD is still intact.
*Free entertainment for the rest of the day: TV, finish library book, finish audiobook, knit, comb cat, sit in sunshine & contemplate life (me) - mr f is shooting something or other up on his X-box - some or other game bought 2nd hand from his monthly 'spends', so not impacting on the budget in any way, as he proudly informed me when he appeared with the carrier bag, lol!
That's it for me today. I really don't feel too lively, but it's not my cooking night, so my jobs are thankfully finished for the day.
Best Wishes everyone,

Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!0 -
Thanks everyone. Had a productive day.
The List 2:
:staradmin Got some badly needed sun this afternoon. Good for the mood.
:staradmin Deep cleaned our very neglected oven without buying oven cleaner. Used biological washing powder, a screwdriver, washable micro-fibre cloths, very hot water, toothpicks and a fake brillo pad. Looks nearly new and I've managed to persuade OH that we don't need to buy a new one.
:staradmin Enjoyed lovely foodie treats from local Sainsbury's bought with Nectar Points plus 9p.
:staradmin OH found some missing cookware in the kitchen cupboard of doom and the ice-lolly kit. Also managed to persuade OH to re-cycle 30 surplus jamjars that are never going to be used. More space for things we do use.
:staradmin Checked out current prices for soapnuts. (Link) Soapnuts are an alternative to washing powder.Debt-free day: 8th May 2015 "Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck," Dalai Llama0 -
