This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

  • Morning all!

Sitting with my second cup of coffee and thinking there's a nip in the air. I noticed yesterday that the leaves are turning. A friend says it's early for that but I'm not so sure.

Today is cleaning day so I need to be out of the house for a few hours to let the cleaner get on. My plan is to head up to M&D's house where I planted seeds yesterday. I'll water them if they need it and check everything's OK and then walk down to The Toll to catch a bus into town. Then I'll snuggle up in my favourite coffee shop with a gardening magazine and my diary to see what I might be doing in September. Lunch will be bought, I'll have a wander round the shops if I want one and then I'll head home. If I have any energy left after that then I'll go to the gym.

Dinner is going to be Sausage 'n' Bean Thing which I'm about to stick in the slow cooker so it'll be ready later.

Have a good, productive and OS day!

    Morning all

Where is everyone?? Enjoying a BH lie in? Hester style maybe :rotfl::rotfl:

Well our last full day in Cornwall, we got our awning down yesterday, as it was very windy and we were fed up of the flapping, so it was a many handed job. One great thing with the rallies, is everyone helps each other. Today is forecast dry and calmer, so I am dragging DH out for a last trip round.

    LW the dogs look lovely.

((Hugs)), Spoons, positive vibes all round. Take care everyone and enjoy the BH. DG

    Good morning everyone :j

It's a beautiful day here today....so not Bank Holiday weather :D. My hubby is planning to take the girls out on their bikes along the Tarka Trail towards the beach for a picnic and an ice cream. this idea is met without much enthusiasm from DDs 13 and 12 but they're going anyway as they have barely left the house all summer  DD10 is full of it and really enthusiastic. I don't want her to change and become a teenager as she is like a big bouncy puppy, my little ray of sunshine.:)

I am really looking forward to having some time on my own to meal plan and go through the finances. I spent quite a lot of money over the past few weeks starting to get presents for Christmas.:o I know it's only August but I like to get everything done by the end of November so I can just enjoy advent and all the run up without the stress.

Hubby has just a couple of weeks left as a trainee at work. I am very optomistic that they will take him on permanently as he is a hard worker, so everything is crossed.

Evil kittens are growing into evil cats. They love perching on the window sill watching the world go by and have managed to stop strangling themselves on the blinds.:rotfl: They have to go for their second vaccination next week and then they can finally go outside :T. They keep making a dash for it as soon as the door is opened so I don't think I will have much trouble persuading them.

Well, that's all my waffling for today. Hope everyone has a chance to enjoy this BH. take care and as always gentle hugs to all who would like one.
    Cheers m'dears x

    Morning all!
Sunny again, so more washing on the go! Have decided that I will wait till DD goes away to totally ransack my bedroom, as I will be able to use her bedroom floor! So this week I will tackle the ironing mountain in stages and get that out of the way.
MIL was hugely emotional yesterday, she's just starting to talk about her feelings of loss over Iain, yesterday she was focussed on his final breath and the associated images of that, not pleasant but thank goodness she is talking. We managed to have a rational conversation about his wishes, so I am hoping that the custody battle over his remains is over, and we will manage to make the trip to scatter his ashes without too much drama, although it will be next year at the earliest as I'm not ready to make the trip.
Right, enough of this, better get the washing out, have a good day all.
    RIP Iain

    Morning :hello:

Ahhhh Cornwall  I'll be there in a month's time, can't wait :D

We lost Rocky Chick last night  She's not been right for a couple of weeks, there was no injury or illness. If there was any pain, we'd have taken her straight back to the vet but she was happy enough, just worn out. We've been syringe-feeding her but she had nothing yesterday, and didn't have the energy to stand up. I brought her in and made a little bed in a basket, she died a couple of hours later while I was holding her - which I'm quite pleased about tbh, she wasn't on her own.

I want to go on a picnic but the weather looks dreary. Might go anyway and eat in the car :D We need to pick up some hay and I want shiny new hinges for the bathroom door.

Not much else happening today. I might crochet a little bee later, I think he'd look lovely sat next to the little crocheted robin on top of my blackboard :D

Morning chums ,weather looking good for today a nice day forecast which makes a change for a bank holiday.I have an ironing mountain to do and before that my eldest DD is coming for brunch and coffee and a long natter. She will cath me up on all her news and I will tell her about my holidays.I don't plan on going anywhere today ,just a 'pottering' day at home .Tomorrow life is back to normal as I have the boys to look after all this week as their Mu is back to work.I may take them to the woods to see if we can find some blackberries for the freezer.
I am trying to eke out the last bit of my holiday cash until the end of the week before the start of a new month ,I have more than enough food in the freezer and cupboards ,in fact one of my jobs today will be to do a stocktake of stuff in the cupboards.
I have started knitting some cardigans for my friends forthcoming twins I shall do a blue and a yellow one for the boy and a pink and a green one for the girl. They are due in the next few weeks and I always make the third size up so they can grow into them as new borns get such a lot of clothes anyway.
Tomorrow night is quiz night at the local pub and I look forward to that.I shall try to talk my eldest into coming hopefully.
Right time for tea I think
Have a great day whatever you are doing and if your feeling down or poorly have a virtual hug
    Cheers chums

    Morning all,

Beautiful day here :T really lovely, the wm is on the go and I will get it hung out later.

Yesterday we managed to board up the old fireplace in the bedroom and OH managed to sink the plug sockets into the walls, they were those ones that sit proud of the walls which drive me mad and make the furniture stick out. Today we will try and do some filing and leave that to go off.

Going to go out somewhere later, we have not been out all weekend and am going a bit stir crazy. Will get the dog out for a good walk too.

Jooles hard times for you again , have a hug love xx

    Good morning everyone :)

Lovely weather here, are we sure it's really a bank holiday.

Managed to get DD and GDD to our house yesterday and they stayed last night. DD is in a lot of pain and finding it very difficult to sleep, I am currently sneaking around as I think she is still asleep but can hear GDD up to something, so am sure it won't be quiet for long. We all stayed up until stupid o'clock watching Avatar on TV!

Just a bit of rest and relaxation and TLC on the cards today, then will take them home later and get ready for work tomorrow. Tomorrow night will pick DD up again and she will stay here for an early hospital visit on Wednesday, she needs to be there for 730am. Thanks everyone for the well wishes and healing vibes for her, all she is worried about is being ok for going back to uni in 3 weeks.

LW - those little princesses are a pair of cuties :D

tru - am sorry about Rocky chick :(

Jools - am sorry things are so difficult for you but sounds like MIL is going in right direction and hope this issue is finally resolved. You must insist on taking your time until you are ready for this. Love and hugs for you and your family.

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need them or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day :)

    Morning all,

I ended up sleeping most of yesterday afternoon, but DH enjoyed slapping paint on the garden walls so we'll finish that today and work out where the new bench will go. the 'garden' is really a back yard and about 15 feet square so it won't take long to decide.

I'll get the washing on the line in a minute, then join DH painting - lets hope we get a sunny September so I can enjoy this retirement game by doing my house jobs outside as much as possible.

I've started shopping for the Christmas shoe box appeal, the 'back to school' stationery offers make a good basis, then I add hats, gloves and scarves etc as they come into the shops - I didn't find any in the January sales this year. The most of the gift shopping is almost done, but I haven't bought for DH's birthday later this week yet because he can't make up his mind.

Off to find the clothes pegs, have the best day you can x
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.

    Morning all,

Didn't manage to post yesterday but just had a quick catch up.
    lamewolf what gorgeous dogs
jackieo glad you enjoyed your hols, we missed you
ttftm I fall in and out of love with eBay all the time. Most people are good to deal with but some people are very odd:eek:

My boy is back from Leeds safe and sound and weary, along with most of a muddy field from the Leeds Festival. Sounds like he had a ball. I've missed him:D

Hubby is working today and I'm just pottering. Tea will be lasagne from the freezer, with salad and garlic bread.
I'm trying to stick to healthy eating but finding it tough at the moment.:(
My knees are incredibly sore. I'm due to go back in October to get on the list for the right one to be replaced, but I'm going to see if I can bring the appointment forward. I don't see any reason to wait. My GP said I may be able to get one done before Christmas and the other one just after. Scary but I want me life back.

Anyway better get a wriggle on, hugs were needed, hope you all have a good day x
