How long does it take to get a Charis grant?

I've had ongoing issues with NPower - very long story short; I'm on ESA so needed to pay for my electricity via Fuel Direct, but NPower refused to set-up Fuel Direct and were going to disconnect my unless I called them, I can't use a telephone and they refused to talk to anyone else calling them on my behalf to find a solution.

After a lot of visits to CAB and debt experts I was advised the only way around this was to apply for a Charis grant to force NPower into setting-up some sort of payment agreement (occurs automatically when the grant is approved) as they were unwilling to do this otherwise. Thus stopping being cut off, also allowing me to clear what I owe them so I can hopefully move to another company who may be more willing to deal with disabled customers.

I had a letter confirming I'd get the Charis grant as long as I paid on time for 3 months - the amount to pay per month is significantly more than I'd have paid via Fuel Direct so it is has been a major struggle for me to make these higher payments. I have managed this for 4 months, but I've heard nothing about the grant yet.

Does anyone know how long it will take to get the grant?

Thanks RoseUK, I have never heard of a Charis Grant. I will pass on this organisations address on to people who may be in trouble with utility debts. I have met a few deserving people who may benefit

My previous questions or answers are in regards to issues I've been having with NPower, there is absolutely no need to include them in this question.

I am specifically asking how long it takes for the Charis grant to be approved - I assumed others would have had experience with this type of grant.

I can only say from leaving a message on their phoneline that they normally respond within 6 weeks to say if someone has been granted help. I do not know re your supplier but for BG they then may clear the balance quite soon after that. I am surprised to hear that would automatically get you on Fueldirect though as Charis also helps people who are not claiming benefits.
