What about this? It is unusual, it is beautiful countryside and the people who run it are great.

I note that it says July and August you can book for a whole week only, however, it also says about late availability - so you never know, it is worth a look if it is something that interests you.

Good luck with finding the right thing!

  • I think with such short notice I would be looking on last minute cottages or next 4 weeks for self catering, or even try eBay.
    I'm not sure about hotels.

Have you decided against the Harry Potter tour? Depends on what you and your wife are interested in but Stratford Upon Avon has a lot of history. Warwick Castle is great IMO (you can usually get 2for 1 entry) and about 10 miles from Stratford Upon Avon. For cheaper accomodation you could look at the Travelodge in Leamington Spa as it is an old regency hotel that still has the sweeping staircase and stained glass windows. Leamington Spa has a nice park with fountains and flower beds. Weatherspoons opposite the hotel for cheap breakfast and meals.

The Devere hotel group have some offers on and they are usually good staff training hotels with free tea and coffe making machines and nice grounds. You might might a reasonable deal in one of their hotels.

I just had a look and the Daventry Devere hotel has a room, bed and two course dinner deal for your dates for £118 in total for the two nights. Warwick castle seems to be 16 miles away. Rrom only deal is £39 per night for your dates.

My in-laws stayed at the Devere in Southampton in July and said it was lovely they have rooms for £49 for your dates. I think breakfast is an extra £7.50 per person. Hunton park is £39 and £59 per night for the dates you want if you still want to do the Harry Potter tour.
