Talk Talk - New 12 Month Contract?

Options
I recently contacted TalkTalk re cancelling my contract due to the price increase. I called them last weekend to confirm this had been done as I did not receive a promised email and was told it had not been carried out.

The guy who I spoke to talked me into staying, offering me a cheap deal "for the remaining 9 months of my contract". However, I recieved a letter from them yesterday stating I had entered into a new 12 month contract.

Obviously I am very annoyed by this and now want out of this. The guy at no point in our 15 minute call mentioned a new contract and even said "they will hear from me in May at renewal time".

Obviously lies and deception are par for the course with TT:mad:

What is it about the extra 3 months that makes it unacceptable, if you've got a good deal for that 12m? You were quite happy to do 9m on that deal?
A retention deal invariably involves a new minimum term, that's the trade-off you get.
Bear in mind that unless they've guaranteed otherwise, the price can still go up again in those 12m.

Not necessarily,I am currently on a 12 month half price deal from Sky and I am free to exit that at any point. It's the fact that I was not told there would be a new 12 month contract and the retention guy actually specifically saying they would expect to hear from me next May when the contract was up that is getting to me.

It just strikes me as being a little devious with customers.
