MOT query

Just had a thought - would a car fail its MOT if it doesn't have exactly the right size tires on?

My car's "proper" tyres are 175/60 (and I have a set of these which are currently on the car)

However, when I was looking for winter tyres I couldn't get any this size, and was told that 165/65 were an equivalent tyre so have these

Anyway, just realised my MOT is due when the winter tyres will be on - will it fail for this?

TIA

No thats fine, but if they aren't considered a standard tyre for your car you would need to inform your insurance company.
  • *phew* that's a relief

I informed my insurance co last year when they went on & were taken off again

Just had my renewal through and it now says on it:

"tyres - winter set to replace standard for season" :)

As mentioned they won't be a problem for the MOT, but the slightly higher sidewall of the winter tyres will change the speedometer reading slightly.
