Well, it also depends on who the lenders were.
ANy car finance, first plus, welcome finance or somehting of that ilk, if it was sold prior to Janaury 14th 2005, won't have been regulated and can dismiss your complaint.
Any lender thathas since gone bust and was sold after Janaury 14th 2005, you can use the FSCS to complain.
If you don't know who they are, and you have no records, first you have to find out who they were, then you have to get hold of account numbers, either over the phone, or if the accounts are too old, sending a SAR and £10 to each lender.
Then, if you are awarded any redress and you have amounts written off or are still in arrears and they haven't sold the debt on outright, the redress will first go towards the arrears/debt .
The above is the reason why you shouldnt not employ a company to complain on your behalf because you may not see a penny of redress but will still owe the company money if successful thus making even more debt for yourself.
You will have to fill in one of those forms for each one, or if the accountss are stil active, and you have the numbers, or you can phone and they find you, you could complain over the phoneNon me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
I have been looking through the forums now for the last few months, whilst thinking about making a claim for mis-sold PPI
Finally got round to sitting down and sorting out any types of credit we've had since 2006 and it would appear that over the course of those years between myself and my husband we have an amazing 21 creditors!
alot of these debts were passed to collection agencies and then payments were made and the accounts sorted via them, do we claim through the debt collection agency or from the original creditor?
Some of them i have no clue who the original creditor was as it was some time ago.
its all a bit of a minefield, and the 11 page 'questionnaire' thats suggested you fill in is going to take forever for these 21 different companies.. is there a bog standard letter that i can send instead and just edit in the address and reference numbers?
its going to be a very long process i think, so any advice would be greatfully recieved
Thanks
I think you could do with some to be honest.
If you want to make a complaint, then you need to know what you think has been done wrong, when and by who.
It's not a minefield, making a complaint to your bank or finance provider is a very simple process. It's just like complaining to anyone else. As long as you know what you're complaining about. But if you haven't got a clue and are just fishing for compensation because you've heard about other people getting money from it then I've no doubt it will seem a bit difficult.
You can't just send a standard letter to 21 companies because you're accusing them of misconduct. The vast majority of them (if not all) have probably done nothing wrong whatsoever.
Have a look at the links on this site which give potential signs of Mis-sale. If you think any of them apply then by all means you can complain. But if you don't even know who you have credit with (nor, by the sounds of it, whether you even had PPI, it's going to be a bit difficult to complain about the manner in which it was sold to you.
Please don't go sending wild speculative letters of complaint just on the off chance. It's out of order and not fair to those who might have a genuine grievance and are delayed in getting it dealt with as a result.0 -

Before any of this, there is the little matter of actually having valid grounds for complaint. It's amazing how many complainants there are who seem to believe that just because they purchased a policy they have to complain about it. However, there has to be some element of wrongdoing and its fairly easy to identify the ones who are just on a fishing expedition.0 -
single premium seems to be quite a valid one in some cases without any conscious attempt to discover grounds ont he behalf of the complainantNon me fac calcitrare tuum culi0

So, we seem to have someone who doesn't seem to know who she wants to complain to, doesn't know what she is actually complaining about and can't really be bothered to make the effort to complain properly.

wow!!
i can see this was totally the wrong forum to ask advice on.... geesh did people get out of bed on the wrong side?
I do have reasons for not knowing who some of the creditors are but after responses here i'm not even going to attempt to justify myself!
Thanks for the 'not so' informative advice!0 -

What you deem to be "negativity" is in fact just a realistic assessment of your chances of a successful complaint.
One thing that wasn't highlighted is that ,as much of your credit was passed to collection agencies, even successful claims would be likely offset against amounts written off as part of any settlement.

Do try to realise that people here are trying to help you and not getting the responses you might have hoped does not mean you've come to the "wrong" forum.
Whatever you do and wherever you go for advice and assistance you need to realise that you have a very uphill battle ahead of you...
Sorry if that's too "negative".0 -

The points raised were fair and valid. If you cant answer them then how do you expect to get on with the complaint if the firm and/or FOS asks you the very same questions?
