PPI on car loan

I had a car loan from vauxhall in 1999 and paid it off in 2004, I am pretty confident I was sold ppi on it, but don't have any of the details.
Vauxhall have told me they don't have records over 6 years old, and I believe loans from car companies weren't regulated back then.
Does anyone know if I can reclaim the ppi and if so where to start?
Thanks

It is was pre January 2005. So, the car dealer wouldnt need to consider your complaint anyway.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
