https://www.compusa.com and also https://www.circuitcity.com both have stores around the Miami area and you can check the deals out online before you get there.

Fry's have huge stores on the West coast. Huge range of products and they have offers on laptops which change every few days. https://www.frys.com/

You do need to look for offers without rebates unless you have friends or family who will sort these out for you.

You will of course have to pay Customs Duty plus VAT on top of local Sales Taxes; so the price differential may not be quite as low as you are thinking.

Im sure if you dump the packaging and post the paperwork back to yourself and have a few word or excel documents saved onto the laptop you will have no problems avoiding customs.

Don't forget the tippex to make the keyboard look British as a US keyboard on a new looking laptop on a flight from the US is a bit of a giveaway

True, but it is ilegal. Just becuase the chances of getting cought are low does not make something legal.

To answer the OP: BestBuy have some good offers also don't forget Walmart, they sell everything!

I somehow doubt any possible savings would justify the import risks involved, baring in mind that you will be buying in Miami as well, notorious for it's high crime levels.

You may wish to wait, the dawn of the ultra cheap laptop is almost upon us, Asus and Intel will be selling $200 - £100 flash based devices with Windows or Linux by the end of the year. Battery life will be great thanks to their solid state nature and they will be able to cope with most home/office/net needs.

In the meantime rather than buy in the US for savings that will not be so great and the complication of a warranty claim stick to a UK Dell.
