Are you keeping your Amex Preferred Reward Gold card after the first year?

The "Green" card on the website now is called "The American Express Card" - there used to be a cheaper Green card that was about £37/year and attracted the fee to add Membership Rewards which must be what those terms refer to. I agree it is confusing though!
Oh really, that's interesting... are you saying that there is no MR fee from personal experience then?
The application for the "American Express Card" still says "green card" in some places... and in the T&Cs at https://www.americanexpress.com/uk/content/pdf/card-products/the-american-express-card/GreenCard-SB.pdf it does say "Where applicable, an annual fee may be payable for enrollment into the MR programme."0 -
@zerog @dunpin considering that they're talking about MR points on the page without mentioning the £24, it would be quite deceiving of them if you actually have to pay the additional fee for MR enrolment.
I decided to apply for BA Premium Plus yesterday and the application has been referred. I should hear back from them next week.
If approved, I will transfer the MR points to Avios then cancel the gold. As for the BA card, I will do the £3,000 spend to get the bonus then downgrade to the free card. It's quite hard to use the 2-4-1 voucher when you're single

I asked this on their twitter account. No fee on the American Express card. The American Express Card and The Green Card are effectively different cards.0

well fair enough. and that's a good idea, i was just going to get the BA free, but 16500 extra avios for £12.50, or £25, depending on how long you take to spend the 3k is a good deal
the problem i'm facing now is whether i can reach £18k spend. if i can't make £15k on the gold then it makes more sense to just spend £3k on the BA paid, which i will be applying for in advance of the gold anniversary.
buying things to resell is against the T&Cs of the gold, at least... not that they'd find out anyway, but i suppose it wouldn't be against the T&Cs to sell something i already own and buy a new one using the card
