This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning all!
Quiet here this weekend!
The sun's out, so WM is splashing away, will get my bedding in next. MIL is coming over later for me to take her to the garden of remembrance, so better have a tidy up.
Last night's Indian shepherds pie was a great success, made a dry cabbage and carrot curry to go with it which was lovely, but I couldn't get the chilli off my finger no matter how often I scrubbed my hands, so fingers were tingling all night!
Oh well, better move myself. Have a good day!RIP Iain

OH and I finished all the stripping of the paint in the bedroom yesterday :T, so pleased its a horrible job, I shall hoover and clean right through today to try and get rid of some of the dust. Also we need to plasterboard over the fireplace today and I shall strip the windowseal.
Dinner tonight is a hot roast pork and stuffing sandwich, dd can have veggie alternative.
Have good days all xx0 -
Good morning everyone
Weekend is turning into a disaster, nowt new there!
DD has injured her hand and needs reconstructive plastic surgery on Wednesday but seems to be spending most of her time in different hospital A&E while waiting for that. Hope today is better and her and GDD get to spend the day here/stay overnight. Now need to try and organise day off to take her to hospital on Wednesday and to sort out care for GDD same day. Am worried about DD being ok for uni and her chosen career after she finishes this year but the unit she is going to is very well known to me from my own treatment there and I know they will do the best possible job for her, just wish she had been referred there immediately.
Having ebay problems, with someone who has decided to leave me some very low detailed seller ratings for dispatch time but they left the feedback 3 days after paying me. In middle of fight with ebay to get it removed but they don't seem to understand the issue.
Stopped moaning now and the weather is better so washing is out. Mediterranean style roast pork in the oven. After hospital, only managed to get some shopping late yesterday so lots of YS bargains, one in oven and rest in the freezer.
Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super dayLBM 10/1/12 ~ DFW Start 6/2/12: £82,344 ~ Now Zero:staradmin:starmod::staradmin Debt free 17th April 2015 :staradmin:starmod::staradmin

Morning :hello:
Time to face the music oh no, I hope her hand heals quickly.
I have my blackboard/letter rack :j Mr tru said he'd put it on the wall, I was immediately downhearted, lol. He cannot hang anything straight, and true to form this is slightly wonky *sigh*. He's off work til tuesday, I'll fix it as soon as he's left the house
Anyone else got marigolds that are 4' tall and just starting to flower? Very odd. We have loads of tomatoes, I've smooshed lots for the freezer. I'm running out of room because Mr tru keeps buying junk food and filling the freezer with it.
I've got loads of washing to get through but it's just not drying, the air feels very damp. I'll hang as much as possible around the house but I'll have to put the dryer on too. Really don't like doing that.
I can finally clean my teeth properly, ha ha that sounds like I haven't cleaned them for agesTeeth cleaning is fine but I kept forgetting that the back ones are gone and I had to clean the gums so carefully, hardly touching them. No more salt rinses :j And I'm having fish pie for lunch :j

Good Morning everyone I am back off my holidays after a great time on the Isle of Wight .We were very lucky and only had a couple of days when it was wet.But the rest of the time it was gorgeous. The boys had a smashing time and went fishing several times with their Mum on a boat.Ben came down for a couple of days before going off to reading for his festival. He did well in his first year of his 'A' levels so I treated him to some beer which went down very well.He is such a good lad and really puts the slog in.Bearing in mind when he changed school at 6 he could barely write his name (previous school was a disaster)he now has passed all four of his first year exams nearly 12 years later.I am very proud of him
:)
DD enjoyed every minute of the holiday and it done her the world of good to relax for two weeks. Now life goes back to normal again for anouther year .Freshwater for the last two weeks of August next year all booked already:)
The house we had in Sandown was lovely very large and three of the bedrooms were en suite plus a big family bathroom and with little boys who attract mud, sand and muck like magnets they were used:)
We went to a place called 'Legends' on the last night and had a really nice meal and the staff were very bright and cheerful I recommend it to anyone who wants nice food and good service One place I didn't like was at Cowell Bay 'The Hut' the staff were rather rude and snooty and as it was only a beach bar/restaraunt I couldn't see their problem.I asked for tea and hot chocolate for two of my DGS as they had been on the beach and the wind had got up and they were a bit chilled. They weren't untidy or anything but the chap looked down his nose and said 'If you need a table then you'll have to sit outside ' bearing in mind there were more than a few wasps about and I have an allergy to their stings I asked why we couldn't have a table inside as the place was virtually empty his reply was 'We don't serve people indoors off the beach' I quickly replied 'Well I will find somewhere that does' I was furious.I had been in previous years but this year its changed hands and been 'upscaled' I think.I could understand if it was the evening trade but this was at 3.30 in the afternoon and I just wanted a hot drink.Needless to say they didn't get my custom.
Grumpy Granny rides again:)
Right I'm off to hang some more washing out while the sun shines
Nice to have a holiday but always glad to be home again
Cheers chums

Afternoon all,
Jackie - glad you had a good holiday.
Tru - my DH doesn't do straight lines either
TTFTM - sending positive vibes to your daughter
Late start today as I could barely move this morning - yesterday I walked to the market and back, then was painting garden walls white in the afternoon. I did take my time and was painting sitting down , but ...:o Thank goodness for strong painkillers.
I want to paint the outside wall of the raised beds a sort-of Mediterranean blue, but it doesn't seem to exist in masonry paint so I'll mix blue emulsion and white masonry paint in a bucket and cross my fingers.
DH is still ploughing through his mother's bank statements to try and work out exactly how many thousands had been misused by the attorneys for on-line gambling, on-line shopping and worst of all, money to a debt collection agency. Sickening. He'll be taking legal advice once he has exact figures.
Off to put some washing on the line.
have a lovely afternoon xI can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
Hi all,
Back from hol,s - had a lovely time, just me and OH, really relaxing but SO HOT....
Back to reality now - and the washing machine......
Brain is now in winter/xmas prep mode - have bought several pressies so far, and off to buy 10 bags of coal on tues for multi fuel burner over winter - OH has been collecting wood all summer, so we should be snug. On the hunt for some cheap summer duvets to add to kids current ones for winter and a couple of throws for sofa,s and beds - DD drove us mad last winter moaning she was cold and setting the thermastat to max when we were out, whilst flouncing around in next to nothing - so this year she will look like michelin man
Have only had a quick flick through todays thread -
Jackie O - glad you enjoyed your hols - the beach-side cafe you mention only really caters for families with children called Tarquine and Juaqaster and have a little place on the island the size of buck palace - their loss - balls to 'em
TTFTM - hugs for DD x
Roast Bargin Mr L pork today with all the trimmings - not had a roast for months so looking forward to it
Off to read back on what I,ve missed
Have a fab Bank Hol all xNote to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

I think your right Islandmaid, perhaps my two gorgeous little grandsons with ordinary names of Jack and Michael wern't 'posh' enough for their pretensions. As you say their loss i walked along to where you go back up to the car park and a very nice lady in the ice cream shop did us a nice cuppa and the boys not only had a hot drink but a delicious ice cream as well. Its a nice place for 'crabbing' and just having a good time but the new beach huts there remind me very much of Whitstable which is a resort near to where I live which also has certain 'pretensions'in the restaraunts.
We did go to some nice spots on the Island though, and I'm glad not everyone is so silly about an ordinary cuppa. We luckily only had the tail end of the 'yachties' of Cowes week We watched some of the boats and listening to the folk on them were hilarious. On our last day (Friday) we spent on Sandown beach right up the far end where you can take the dogs .My DD has a tiny Jack Russell and a crossed 'Heinz 57' rescue dog who is a very old boy and very gentle with the children. We sat happily on the 'doggy' beach with the boys and the mutts.we had our little picnic and tent for the boys and a kite for them to fly.Sitting in the sun with my book and knitting was lovely.About an hour or so later a woman came up to my DD and asked her to keep her dogs tied up as her little girl didin't like dogs very much .I'm afraid my DD was polite but firm with her .she said ' Then move to a dog free beach,we have come here with our two dogs and they are no trouble to anyone and have not gone anywhere near your daughter. As you can see the old dog can just about totter down to have a paddle and the little one would lick you to bits given the chance and I'm sorry but this is a dog-allowed beach and we were here first'
This woman took great umbridge at this and starting carrying on about dogs and their owners.I had to calm my DD down as she was getting rather cross. She is a resonsible dog owner and her dogs are always looked after and having had five children of her own she is always concious of how children react towards dogs so is careful that her dogs don't upset nervous children. She sent this rather unpleasant woman off with a flea in her ear (not one from the dogs either:))
There certainly isn't nowt so queer as folk at times:)
My washing is blowing away on the line at the moment and I have another lineful to go out shortly. So its back to normality for another year.
Just going to put my feet up and watch some catch-up t.v. for a bit then its off to DDs for dinner later
Hope everyone is having a good week-end
Cheers

TTFTM major amounts of healing vibes for DD.LW. Hope you are enjoying your doggie visitors.
Here they are - Patsy the Lhasa Apso and Pandy the Coton de Tulear. Does anyone else think Patsy bears a passing resemblance to Chewbacca the Wookie (Star Wars)?:rotfl:If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0
