Tapping noise in sink cupboard.

Calling all plumber for advise-
For the last 3-4 days I have a periodic tapping noise in the kitchen sink cupboard by the mains riser. The noise is non-stop, about a second apart and I have heard this before on the float valve of old style wc cisterns.
The mains riser comes into the house, tees off to the garden tap, kitchen filtered water inlet and a quooker boiling water tap tank before going into a water softener. The route to the softener has bypass valves and I have checked these but it doesnt affect the noise.
Any idea what this might be?

Leak
Mouse
Something expanding /contracting
That missing clock
Not being funny but it could be all sorts of things none of which is remotely accurately diagnosable from here without an enormous investment in time and bandwidth or an incredible amount of luck IMO. Sorry. Inevitably, however, someone will try though.

Is your quooker boiling water unit allowing hot heated water into system, thus causing a ticking noise as pipe work expands and contracts. There are more questions than answers :shhh: :silenced:WARNING ! May go silent for unfriendly repliesPlease excuse me Spell it MOST times:A UK Resident :A0

@keystone-
mouse -no
missing clock - i am too cheap to buy the ticky variety
expansion/contraction - its consistent. Not the expansing/contracting type
leak - possible. No signs though. It sounds like it might have something to do with water pressure.
Would turning off the water main into the house provide any clues? We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Problem is, old son, that you can hear it but nobody else can so its total guesswork from this side of the KB, your ears will also allow you to help locate the precise source.
It might - have you tried it?

Yes. tried that and the noise went away. My water softener supplier asked to check the inlet water pressure which apparently should be no higher than 6 bar.
Sounds like there are no easy wins here. Time to get a plumber in or does the water company have any responsibility here? We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Are you on a water meter?
Could be this ticking as it counts the water usage.
Mine does at home
Or maybe a non return valve above the stop tap?0 -
