Moved house and discovered a faulty item

The shower in my house was installed in 2011 but has stopped working due to a faulty component (£70 thermostatic cartridge). We only purchased the house after this, in 2012, so do I have any chance of getting a free replacement?

The manufacturer offers a 12 year guarantee, but says this is non transferable. I don't suppose the Sale of Goods Act applies either, since it was not me who made the the original 'contract' with the seller.

Do I have any rights to say this item was not fit for purpose etc, and ask retailer/manufacturer for a new component?

Thanks.

Hard water area? I have to replace the cartridge in mine every few years.
  • I found the instructions online and was able to remove the catrridge from the taps, and have descaled it...but still doesn't work.

I was secretly hoping that buying the house would somehow give me more rights over the fixtures within it than if they were just secondhand at a car boot sale. Oh well. £60 lost then. That means no chinese takeaway for a few months.

I assume it needed registering to activate the warranty, or needs proof of purchase now. Otherwise you could always contact the manufacturer and just not tell them you weren't the original purchaser.
