Sorry basic q about s/o - got a mental block

Just opened a Yorkshire Regular Saver and I'm about to set up a standing order to go from my Cahoot account to the YBS every month.

I've got all the right account number & sort code details etc, but where it says 'payable to' on the Cahoot screen....do I fiill in my name or the Yorkshire BS?

I just phoned YBS to query and I got a very young sounding lad who paused for ages before hesitantly saying it didn't matter whether I put my own name or the YBS. He didn't fill me with confidence to I'm checking with you lot too.

Sorry, I know this is dead simple but I'm being blonde this morning. (Sorry to all blondes who I suspect are much brighter than me right now  )

  • think you just put your name, but best check with others first :)

    Your name.

I pay money to other people through their bank accounts, different banks, and I always put their name in that field.

The bank is identified by the sort code.

The account number also identifies the person but an extra safe guard is to have the person's name present.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)

And - as with cheques - I think the YBS will want the account holder's name, not their own.

Technically he was probably right, but as others have suggested, it's probably safer to make the money easier to trace back to you by using your own name.
