Hi guys wondering if you could help - I need to buy a car to drive just up to 10 miles a day max but I never bought a car in the UK and was wondering if you could point me to one dealer or two in the ESSEX area who are reliable.... much appreciated

or are there any other more cost efficient ways to manage this 10 miles a day, obviously ignoring public transport :)

Have you looked at the cost of insurance?

With zero no claims you could be lokoing at £2000 for the 1st year. Then tax and fuel. A taxi maybe cheaper.

Maybe not that high, depends on your age but for new drivers without any experience or No Claims discount it can be ridiculously high until you start building up a No Claims bonus.

Have a look at insurance quotes at Confused.com, Gocompare.com and Moneysupermarket.com (they are the main sites) to get a rough idea at what insuring you is going to cost.

Pop in your postcode on Autotrader and select within a certain distance you are prepared to travel to see what cars are available. It should tell you what insurance group the car is in, the lower the group the cheaper the insurance should be.

True, but you have to start somewhere, and start building your No claims bonus. But granted, that might be the best bet if its just for a 10 mile commute each day.
