I am having a really hard time trying to come up with a suitable carpet colour for the upstairs of my new house. I like the contemporary look of beige but I have a small child and I expect they would be destroyed very quickly.
Any ideas/ experience?

You can get neutral colours with coloured flecks in (as in, a few odd coloured fibres). From a distance, it just looks like one colour, but it helps to cover up some of life's little issues when they happen.
The thing is, a dark carpet isn't necessarily a solution anyway - they fade, and still mark.0 -
Thanks, that is a good idea.
Has anyone gone for a pale coloured carpet and had to replace it very quickly?Total Original Debt: £30404.24

I have a carpet which is a natural colour, not cream though. It has lasted ages on our stairs. The pile hasn't flattened and it hoovers up really well.
It's abit like this kind of thing, berbers are good too but need to be good quality or they flatten quickly.

Buy a carpet made from polypropelene. Fairly inexpensive and BLEACH CLEANABLE........Loads to choose from, naturals, twists etc etc Most come with a free 5 year stain warranty, neat idea as you really would be hard pushed to stain it in th efirst place
I have nothing better to do!!!!

We've got a beige carpet similar to the one that Startrekker mentioned. We've got three children and it's fine. Any marks come out easily when wiped, I find baby wipes are fab.0

I have a sisal carpet on the stairs which is really tough and (I think!) looks great...
something like this

it is not very soft underfoot though - we have wood/laminate in all of the rooms and carpet just on the stairs to soften the noise.
If you picked a type with less of a pattern woven in I think it would be softer underfoot though...
It has survived cat claws, teenagers, babies and a few other disasters and still looks as good as new after 2 years.
It is also natural and has no nasty chemicals in it, it environmnetally friendly and is dead easy to maintian - just a quick hoover now and then. Cleaning when something has been spilt has just been some fabric shampoo and a bit of water.
Can't recommend it enough....

i've heard sisal on stairs can be really slippy becuase of the way the 'grooves' lie...is this rubbish or did you find the same?Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.
Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.0
