Boosting Tesco CC Points

Hello. I have a Tesco Clubcard Credit Card and was wondering if I could boost my clubcard points by adding funds on the card (i.e be in a positive balance) and still collect the points by spending on it?

We are hoping to get a little extra out of this by paying for our wedding costs through the card (without building up a debt).

Thanks in advance!!

Credit card providers do not hold a 'deposit taker' licence, so your money isn't protected.

Section 75 is unlikely to cover spend from a positive balance, because you're spending your money...not theirs! This would be a major issue when paying for elements of a wedding since it also covers consequential losses.

It's against most card providers' T&Cs to deliberately place the account in credit (although I can't find anything specific in my Tesco T&Cs).

Many card providers limit your spend in any statement month to the value of your credit limit.

In extreme cases your card could be blocked, and persistent abuse could result in account closure.

In short, a bad idea! Why not ask for a credit limit increase?

I specifically asked Tesco if my card could be put into credit to accommodate a large purchase. The answer was no.

Either ask to increase your credit limit and clear every month or keep existing limit and clear after every purchase. That way you still get the points and you still have 'credit' left to buy with iyswim.

  • I use my tesco card for everything for the points. I don't wait for a statement; on a normal week I make a payment at the weekend. If there is a large purchase I make a payment when I get home. Because I round up or down the ££'s, when the statement comes I usually owe about £5.

Why not pay for the wedding costs on the CC but pay off the amount immediately as you spend?

If an individual bill is more than you CC limit then ask the supplier if you can pay in instalments - even if they are just a day or two apart and again you pay off the CC in between instalments.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

spot on. i've hit Clubcard points hard in the past. but generating cashback which can be spent anywhere is preferable. :A
