Insurance & Bank Account

Hello

I hope this is the right place to post this.

I am going to Crete in October and my bank account (Halifax/Bank of Scotland Ultimate Reward) has free annual cover.
I've never had to use this before so I phoned up to say I was going away and I took medication for asthma and I was advised that I would have to carry out a quotation and if necesarry pay extra, its just asthma and I bet 1000's of customers have asthma, is this normal?

Sorry I'm not very clued up on travel!

They might not charge you any extra, I declared a couple of conditions with my Nationwide bank account insurance, they covered them with no extra charge.

But it's possible they'll either charge you extra, or tell you that they won't cover anything associated with the asthma.

Do the quotation and find out.
  • I just didn't expect to have to do a quote as I've never been hospitalised for it and its under control
Will have to phone up at work as landline is terrible today can't hear anyone! need to phone up someone else too and I can't GRRR!!!

You probably will have to pay a little bit for the asthma, I would pay it as I bet if something happened there'd be a way of linking it to the asthma then your insurance would be null and void.
My dad has a gripe about paying for his blood pressure, as he says he's on tablets its under control so he's less likely of dropping dead than all these people who have blood pressure and don't know they have.

My husband feels the same, he takes a daily statin which has brought his cholesterol level down to a level that is better than a lot of other people, but we have to pay extra otherwise nothing at all related to his circulatory system would be covered :(
Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end

It really isn't free. It costs £180 a year.

It is normal and most prudent to disclose pre-existing conditions.

My eldest paid £12.50 extra for asthma cover for a full year.

You could consider "downgrading" to the standard Reward current account, pocketing £60 a year and using that to contribute towards travel insurance and breakdown cover.

My son is asthmatic and I always declare it, have never been charged extra.
