To put a door on the kitchen or not?

Thanks for all your replies. We are going to go with the 'open plan' idea, mainly because space in the kitchen is so tight. Luckily the downstairs has a hallway and a separate front room, which will give some sanctuary when the washing machine is on at least. Jolaaled - I like the idea of the curtain for the winter.0

I would install a bifold door. Smell etc from the kitchen will stink out the house.SECRET OF SUCCESS IN LIFE:

What on earth are these people cooking who stink out the whole house because they don't have a door on the kitchen?
And you all need to buy Bosch washers.0 -
I like a door to shut the cat in the kitchen! I don't shut it when cooking though (we have an extractor fan for that), but do shut it if the washing machine or dishwasher are on and in the winter it is cosier with it shut (especially if we put a fire on in lounge).
My BIL and SIL don't have a door on their kitchen and it is annoying that their cat has free rein of the whole house at night (and scratches at the carpets). Just something to consider if you had tenants who got pets (with or without your permission).0
