Argos - contract of purchase

I ordered an item through Argos. I am told that this item is coming direct from the supplier.
The supplier was due to delivery the item yesterday (23 August) only after giving me 24 hours notice of this date. Delivery has NOT been made as of yet (now 8.35am on 24 August).
I am under the assumption that my "contract" is with Argos and this was made at the point of purchase (26 July). Have just been told by Argos that the contract with them doesn't start until the item has been delivered. Is this right?
I look forward to your responses.

According to their t's and c's the contract is formed on dispatch of the goods. Have they left the supplier yet?0 -
I couldn't tell you. We've had no contact at all from the suppliers or delivery driver. All I've had was a voicemail left saying that delivery would be made on 23 August.0

You expect delivery before 8am? Surely you will have a complaint if it doesn't arrive by 8PM?0
-
but if you call them on 0845 640 2020 between 8am and 8pm, 7 days a week. then they should be able to trace where your order is and why the delay.0

Argos can't tell me anything as everything is now dealt with by the supplier. I know the name of the supplier but they are now shut until Tuesday0

You have cause for complaint to Argos, irrespective of when the contract date is.
The existence or otherwise of a purchase contract is something of a red herring, in fact.0 -
You made the purchase with Argos and not the supplier, so as soon as payment is made a contract is formed between you and Argos. It is then Argos who place the order with their supplier which forms a contract between Argos and their supplier to deliver the goods to you (dropship). I find it very hard that Argos say they have no details as everything is dealt with by the supplier as Argos should have order details they provided the supplier along with consignment details0

Its not that hard to believe, Argos will send the order to the supplier who will then dispatch for delivery.. I doubt that the Argos front line staff will have access to details such as consignment details, and as it is a bank holiday, I doubt any back office staff with access will be in till Tuesday.
Also, the payment is not necessarily when the contract is formed. If this was an order on their website the contract is not formed until dispatch.0 -

the number is for the online CS staff who's system should have all the details of the order . Once you pay then you are forming a contract relationship link between the retailer and buyer, so any issues you go to retailer and not their supplier.0
