As for the Boxster? Please don't, it just screams "couldn't afford a proper Porcshe, so bought this instead" (IMHO :p)

    I concur :D

Sorry I was thinking of the Cayenne, I wonder why they have models with similar names? I had to look up the tiguan as there is the touran and toureg too :o

Cayman and Cayenne aren't in any way similar - one is a crocodilian and the other is pepper. LOL

The Tiguan is a half tiger, half iguana cross - honestly. They have one at Edinburgh Zoo.

heh heh , they are if you you don't eat sleep Porsche, I have to disagree with another poster above though, my mate had a Boxter (is that the lower cost Porsche? Anyways I preferred the drive in 2 litre Golf in comparison to the 2.7 Boxter.

Boxster is a proper Porsche, Strider. They put their badge on it and everything. And it's about the best in its category. Buying a £30,000 six cylinder, RWD mid engined car, because you can't afford the 911, a £70,000 six cylinder, RWD rear engined car?
I'd love to have that problem...

I prefer the look of the hard tops personally, a topless car is great for a few days in the summer but then again after a few hours you have to put the top back on because you get too hot in the sun.

Bear in mind that if you do own a soft top you need a very safe parking spot as thieves will slash open your top for the smallest of items.

On a car thread on reddit some soft top owners were saying that they prefer to leave their car door open than lock it because thieves can go in and have a poke around without slashing a £800 soft top.

With that in mind, with a soft top you have to be super careful of what you leave in there, as a rule of thumb don't leave anything exposed. Not even a cigarette packet.

I bought a Boxster brand new in 2006, and for sure it was a great car (although the depreciation was huge). But if I was looking for a used Porsche now I would probably opt for a Cayman, especially if the price differential has eroded over the years. And I agree with londonTiger that the hardtop looks better than the softop (don't forget that Clarkson always says the Boxster looks the same from the front and the back, which isn't the case with the Cayman).

    +1

Great cars in their own right.

Anyone who says otherwise is deluded.

To me the original Cayman did look like a Boxster that had had a solid roof put on (which it was) and the roofline didnt seem to 'flow'.

The new one though is much more reconciled.

I've a soft spot for convertibles so i'd have a Boxster over a Cayman though.

Have to agree RE: the sun - a convertible is a great way to get burned on a summers day. Having said that, i most enjoy a convertible of a summers evening, but i have the roof down on ours as long as its not raining and thats all year round. Only get to drive it in the evenings and weekends though as its my wifes commuting car.
