Hi,

How do I stop my ESA benefit? Do I have to write a letter and if so where do I have to write it to and what do I have to say in it?

Also I currently live with my mum and step dad who work, does me coming of the benefit mean any changes for example their rent? Apart from dentists bills and prescriptions will I suddenly have to start paying for anything else?

Sorry I'm so confused I know it should be simple but I get confused easy due to health problems.

Thank you.

  • I do not think you should stop your ESA as you are having health problems and I think you need this benefit. It should not affect your parents income in anyway if they claim housing benefit etc as your income is separate to theirs. Why do you want to stop your ESA? If you have gone through all the hassle to get it paid and have had that Work capability assessment and been placed in a group - then I would think it is beneficial to continue receiving it. A little bit more information may help so that others can perhaps advise a little more.

Phone ESa or visit a jobcentre to use their phones to phone ESA,

Tell them what day you want to be your last paid day of ESA and that you want it to stop....and it will be done.

If you are still in assessment or on appeal then you must have a sicknote upto and including the day you want the claim to stop from.

Quite - why are you coming off - have you got better?
If not - are you going into work?
If so - do not sign off ESA until then - https://www.gov.uk/return-to-work-credit
