Go to Canon and download the drivers for your macine and operating system.0

I assume you have drivers - otherwise the machine would not work at all - but no editing software. Most photo-editing software includes options to import from scanner. For a free editor, try Faststone image viewer.
I have 2 Canon scanners attached to my PC - an old 3200F and a newer MP620. There are some issues with specific types of driver and specific operating systems/software packages. For example, Faststone can 'see' my MP620 but not my 3200F, while Photoshop will happily use either. As johnmc says, try the Canon support website and look for a version of the Canon Toolbox for your model of scanner. However, if you have an older scanner, like my 3200F, and a new 64-bit OS you might be disappointed.0
