Bt phone/broadband then adding BT sport

Currently have BT phone and fibre broadband. After looking at the bills and seeing that we're paying £45+ each month, I called to cancel. Even paying for 12 months upfront doesn't seem that attractive compared to other providers deals.
I was told that because I'd signed up to the sport the month before, that I can't and I'd have to buy my way out of it. Guy on the phone was adamant that because I took up the free offer I would have to pay to leave them. Although they would let me reduce it to the basic broadband which wouldn't then allow me to have the sports channels.
Surely that can't be right?

Were you speaking to them about anything else a month ago?
I've the same problem at the minute, which may take up to 14 days to resolve, the advisor added on BT Sport even though I declined the offer.
Hope you have a good outcome.

Adding BT Sport requires you to either have a minimum 12m to run on your contract, or starts you on a new 12m minimum term if not. It's clearly stated in the BT Sport T&C's.
Nothing is 'free', there's always a quid pro quo.No free lunch, and no free laptop

You're not the only one to discover this. The freebie came at a cost (fresh minimum term) so you need to see this out.. Then leave!0
