Santander 123 - switching process question

Anyone know do you have to use their switching service for Direct Debits or can you deal with it yourself?

It says you need to set up 2 DDs, but DOES NOT say you have to use their switching service.
Unless you're switching via a cashback site?...in which case what does it say there?0
